The higher education sector in Scotland is diverse. It is made up of 14 universities, the Open University in Scotland, the UHI Millennium Institute, two art schools, one conservatoire, and the Scottish Agricultural College.

The internationalisation of higher education has grown dramatically over the past three decades. Universities in Scotland are amongst the most internationalised and compete at a world-class level.



In 2005/06 the total income of Scotland’s then 21 higher education institutions amounted to £2.1 billion.
