Reacting to the publication of the Scottish Funding Council’s Report on Widening Access 2017-18, Alastair Sim, Director of Universities Scotland said:
“Today’s annual report is vindication of the actions taken by universities to widen access over the past decade. Universities, students and wider society are benefiting from having more students from disadvantaged areas in our universities.
“By following the evidence and listening to our highly professional staff, we’ve been able to take a path of action that will deliver an approach to widening access that is both sustainable and meaningful.
“Beyond the statistics, we should remember that behind these numbers is hard work and commitment from both staff and students. Our work isn’t done yet, but today’s report is a good opportunity to reflect on what’s been achieved so far.”
