Universities Scotland Director, Alastair Sim, has written to the Education, Children and Young People Committee following the evidence session given by the Minister for Further and Higher Education, Graeme Dey MSP, on Wednesday 17 May.

The letter highlights the following:

• a decline in higher education funding within an international context, we are seriously concerned at the accumulating impact of nearly a decade of decline real-terms core public funding.
• why we have calculated cuts to the sector using RPIX (with a comparator to GDP Deflator).
• factors behind the small rises in the cost of university-owned halls of residences.

The letter will be circulated by the committee’s clerks to members of the committee.
