Universities Scotland has responded to a consultation led by Professor Ken Muir on reforming the Scottish education system.
The consultation invites views on the Scottish Government’s intention to replace the SQA and create a new specialist agency for both curriculum and assessment. Reform to Education Scotland, including removing the function of inspection from the agency, also forms part of the consultation.
Our response stresses the importance of examining how the system works for students from disadvantaged backgrounds as well as the variance in availability of subjects in the senior phase. We also outline our support for a balance of exams and other forms of assessment and set out how universities use qualifications in our admissions processes.
