Education and Skills Committee’s pre-budget scrutiny on Scottish Funding Council

We have submitted written evidence to the Scottish Parliament’s Education and Skills Committee’s pre-budget scrutiny on the Scottish Funding Council (SFC). You can read or download our full response here.

The paper makes clear that member institutions value the work of the SFC and its ‘buffer’ role between Scottish Government Ministers and institutions. The paper acknowledges some of the good work currently being undertaken by the SFC whilst at the same time highlighting areas where as an organisation it could improve to benefit the entirety of the sector. The paper acknowledges that the SFC can only be innovative and flexible when it is given more latitude and less prescriptive direction from the Scottish Government. The paper concludes by highlighting the Committee’s approach to the inquiry, with an online survey that asks questions about the performances of universities and colleges, not the SFC.
