Response to Professor Hayward’s independent review of qualifications and assessments

We welcome the independent review of qualifications and assessment by Professor Hayward and have written to the Cabinet Secretary for Education and Skills to express our view on this review.

Our response focuses on:

  • the inclusion and equality of the report and how we see the addressing of the poverty related attainment gap as a key priority as part of this review.
  • the current value and practice of the way in which university degrees are awarded.
  • the various ways assessment can take place and the consistency that must be created across all awards in Scotland.
  • changes in the admission process to universities if the qualifications and assessments are to change.

We are keen to continue to work with the education sector to develop and implement the SDA, to
reform qualifications, and to implement new methods of assessment.
