Following Professor George Boyne’s appearance at the Scottish Parliament’s Education, Children and Young People committee on behalf on Universities Scotland, he has written a letter to the committee. This letter is the result of a question from Ruth Maguire MSP who asked about financial entitlement and support that is available for students. You can see the full question on the Scottish Parliament’s YouTube channel.
The letter contains information about the course structure, the ways in which students are financed during the course and placement and also the funding that is available for students who are struggling financially.
You can read the full letter to the committee here.
We have also followed up with a letter, written by Alastair Sim, Director of Universities Scotland. This letter addresses issues that were raised during the committee’s session with Professor Boyne by the members of the committee.
In this letter, we have highlighted the benefit of Scottish universities to the Scottish economy as they are drivers of economic growth. In addition, we conveyed the benefit of international students to Scotland as they help enrich the culture at universities and increase diversity. Finally, we outlined why changing the funding of students depending on which institution they attend, as suggested in a question from Ross Greer MSP should be resisted.
