Universities Scotland has responded to a survey on the metrics used by the Knowledge Exchange Framework (KEF). The survey, by the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE), called for evidence on:
- suitable existing and potential new metrics
- how to ensure fair and meaningful comparison
- appropriate forms of presenting the results.
Our submission recognised that although the development of the KEF is being pursued only in England, its use of UK-wide data means that there is likely to be parallel analyses of universities from the rest of the UK. Consultation with other UK higher education bodies, such as the Scottish Funding Council (SFC), is therefore important. We also expressed concern over using new data to inform the framework, given the current reporting burden on institutions. You can read our full submission here.
