Disabled Children and Young People (Transitions to Adulthood) (Scotland) Bill: written evidence

Ahead of giving evidence on the Disabled Children and Young People (Transitions to Adulthood) (Scotland) Bill at the Scottish Parliament’s Education, Children and Young People Committee on Wednesday 8 February 2023, we have submitted written evidence to the committee.

Our evidence answers questions posed by the committee about how disabled students are currently supported at universities and what the impact of the Disabled Children and Young People (Transitions to Adulthood) (Scotland) Bill might be on universities in Scotland.

The Bill, if passed, will ensure that every disabled person in Scotland will have transition plan for them up until the age of 26.

We endorse the intention and principle of the Bill, to support and improve transitions for disabled children and young people. We recognise that the current system requires young people to repeatedly  disclose their disability as they transition between stages and providers of study, with their needs assessed and reassessed to suit different institutions and funding providers.
