Briefings & Evidence

Universities Scotland response to Science and Technology Committee inquiry on balance and effectiveness of research and innovation spending.

Universities Scotland submitted evidence to the UK Parliament’s Science and Technology Committee inquiry on the balanced and effectiveness of research and innovation spending. Our submission highlights the importance of the UK wide dual support system, and ensuring Scottish HEIs are involved in the ongoing review of balanced funded. We have also highlighted the need for a formal agreement between SFC and UKRI to help deliver long-term partnership and the importance of funding announcements being clear if they are England-only or UK-wide. Finally we highlighted the importance of investing in research in HEIs and the need for a sustainable sector to meet the UK Government’s 2.4% of GDP spend on research and development by 2027.
