Universities Scotland has responded to a consultation by the Office for Students on regulating quality and standards in higher education. The consultation includes proposals on new definitions of quality and standards and setting baselines for student outcomes. These new definitions of quality and standards would replace existing UK-wide definitions.
Our submission highlights the importance we place on UK-wide definitions of quality (with different quality assessments in each nation) and the value of this for students, staff and international partnerships. This is particularly important because international stakeholders tend to view the UK as one HE sector, rather than noting the differences across the four nations. Our submissions also highlights limitations with data for setting baseline student outcomes.
