New sector tool to help institutions reduce their emissions

APUC, the procurement centre for Scotland’s universities and colleges, has launched a new innovative tool that provides each institution with its supply chain emissions by category, commodity and supplier.

Based on the 2020 DEFRA (Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs) carbon-equivalent conversion factors, the Spend and Climate Emissions Tool allows institutions to prioritise discussions and work on climate to a very granular level. The higher and further education sectors are the first (and currently only) publicly-funded sectors in Scotland to have such a tool and the first region of higher education within the UK.

As well as enabling institutions to take greater action to reduce their emissions, the tool also represents a big saving compared to each institution doing the work and consultancy to obtain the data via other routes.
