Universities Scotland position: The report of the Joint Future Thinking Taskforce on Universities was launched at a press conference at the University of Glasgow on 24 June.
Commenting on the report the Convener of Universities Scotland, Sir Muir Russell, said
“There are some very welcome new proposals in the report which would give universities a very strong place in Government decision-making when it comes to the next major allocation of public funding. The freedom and influence we have won will help universities to focus on what they do well.
“I am glad that the report proposes that the funding of Scottish universities should be broadly comparable to the rest of the UK, and sufficient to maintain the sector’s strong competitive position internationally. It is a major step in the right direction and gives us a good base on which to press our funding case.”
