Responding to Johann Lamont’s speech on 25 September in which she suggested there had been a decline in the standards of Scotland’s universities, Universities Scotland’s Director, Alastair Sim said:
“We are incredibly proud to have five Scottish universities in the world’s top 200. Every university has been judged to undertake research that is of “world-leading” quality and on the teaching side our universities have robust quality assurance mechanisms in place, student satisfaction is high and Scotland has the highest rates of positive graduate destinations in the UK. As a sector we strive to continue building on this tremendous success.
“Ultimately this success requires Scotland’s universities to be funded at internationally competitive levels. It is a political decision as to how this funding is delivered.”
