Responding to Universities UK’s Fair Admissions Review recommendations, which aim to make university admissions fairer and more transparent, Universities Scotland Director Alastair Sim said:
“Moves to make the university admissions process fairer, more consistent and transparent at UK level are most welcome. The next stage of consultation is crucially important: the devolved nations must be an integral part of the consultation and design process to ensure there are no unintended consequences.
“As a sector we are heartened by the review’s move to emulate policies that have already been implemented in Scotland. Scotland’s existing experience of contextual admissions and progressive steps, taken over the last couple of years, to introduce minimum entry requirements and guaranteed offers for care experienced students who meet those requirements are widening access and making admissions to university more consistent, more transparent and ultimately fairer.”
