Engineer a career – a start up from Glasgow Caledonian University

Inspiring the engineers of the future

Engineer a Career is a social enterprise that offers guidance and resources for aspiring engineers, from school students preparing for exams to young professionals seeking chartership or career advancement, all to help them achieve their goals.

It provides resources through articles, social media, and a podcast series featuring diverse engineers, including university graduates, apprentices, and professionals from top companies like Wood, Thales, SSE, and Babcock International.

The start-up was founded by Josh Robertson, graduate of Glasgow Caledonian University where he studied Meng Computer Aided Mechanical Engineering. He currently works for SSEN Transmission, a major UK energy supplier, where he manages the development of projects that ensure the electrical grid accommodates new renewable energy sources.

After graduating, he gained invaluable experience as an engineer at Doosan Babcock, then as an Engineering Capability Manager at Babcock International. Josh is in the advantageous position of being able to channel his industry connections and experience into his start-up, resulting in a crystal-clear vision and close understanding the mindset and needs of young engineers.

The start-up has seen impressive growth over a short period of time, with recent live podcast sessions held at venues including the University of Dundee AECOM, as well as his alma mater, Glasgow Caledonian University. The podcast has featured an ever-expanding slate of insightful and inspirational guests.

With plans to expand across the country, Josh aims to create a robust support network that will help guide the next generation of engineers toward success. This includes more podcasts, live events, and more engagement with universities, colleges and schools, to support the next generation of engineers engage with industry.
