“We’ll walk 500 miles; you just have to stay at home”

To lift spirits and share a very important message, Eilidh Houston, a 2nd year student nurse at the University of the West of Scotland, came up with the fantastic idea of a virtual brass band. Formed of her fellow NHS colleagues, the band performed the classic I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles) by The Proclaimers, asking people to stay home while they walk the extra mile.

Discussing the idea, Eilidh said:

“The main purpose was to spread some cheer and positivity and we decided it was fitting to push the vital message for people to stay home at the same time. Our current bands – we come from seven different bands – are not rehearsing at present, so many of us are missing going along.

“The idea also gave us a reason to pop the instruments out of their cases as well!”

The video has been shared across social media and viewed more than 125,000 times, with news outlets including STV, the Paisley Daily Express and The Daily Record picking up on the story.
