WellFish Tech – a spin out from the University of the West of Scotland
Leading the monitoring of the health of fish
WellFish Tech is a spin-out from the University of the West of Scotland, aiming to establish itself as a leader in monitoring the health of fish through the use of non-lethal blood biomarkers and analysis.
The company analyses biomarkers in blood sampling to provide farmers with rapid, production-relevant insights into factors such as nutrition uptake, flesh quality and gill health amongst other markers.
Since spinning out it has continued to partner with the University, in the form of knowledge transfer partnerships, to benefit from particular expertise in the University, including data analytics, as part of the service provided to fish farm managers, and in a second partnership the University has supported with experitise in molecular biology techniques for blood serum sampling.

“Within a short period of using WellFish Tech we have found that their data is providing extremely valuable insights, in one case giving us the reassurance that the fish were coping with a challenge that resulted in an adjusted feeding schedule that led to a gain in biomass. Without this insight we would not have been able to make that call.”
