Sir Paul Grice confirmed as Interim Convener

Following Professor Gillespie’s decision to step down as Principal and Vice Chancellor of the University of Dundee last week, it has been confirmed that Sir Paul Grice will serve as Interim Convener.

Confirming the news, Claire McPherson, Director of Universities Scotland said:

“Sir Paul Grice has kindly agreed to serve as Universities Scotland’s Interim Convener, effective immediately, stepping up from his current role as Vice Convener, until such time as we can run an election for the next term of office for the role of Convener.

“I am very grateful to Paul for doing so and for the experience, insight and strong sense of collegiality he brings to the leadership of Universities Scotland.”

Paul has been Vice Convener since August 2022, first working alongside Professor Dame Sally Mapstone and latterly Professor Iain Gillespie.

Paul has been Principal and Vice Chancellor of Queen Margaret University since 2019. Before joining the University, Paul was Clerk and Chief Executive of the Scottish Parliament from its inception in 1999, leading the delivery of all services to the Parliament alongside acting as its principal adviser on procedural and constitutional matters.
