Today, Tuesday 4 August, UCAS published figures on Qualifications Scotland results day highlighting that university remains a valued and attractive choice for students, with demand for a degree place continuing to grow.
Commenting, Claire McPherson, Universities Scotland Director said:
“The figures published on results day demonstrate that university remains a valued and attractive choice for students, with demand for a degree place continuing to grow. There is particularly positive news for Scottish applicants, with an increase in the number getting a place at a Scottish institution. There are also encouraging signs of continued progress on widening access. The number of placed applicants from the 20% most deprived communities has increased by 4%, reflecting both the fantastic achievement of these students and the sustained commitment of Scotland’s universities to expanding opportunity. At a time when the value of higher education is under increasing scrutiny, these figures send a clear message: Scottish students continue to see university as a worthwhile investment in their future.
“Whilst there is good news for those applicants who have secured a place at university, for those who didn’t achieve the results they were hoping for there are other routes to university, either through Clearing, direct engagement with institutions or through further education at college. Skills Development Scotland careers service can also provide help and support to those who need it.”
